What is RePro Stream? - The Basics

A quick guide to RePro Stream

Updated over a month ago

When you're making a film or TV show or shooting a live event, the people who need to see your work often can't be there in person.

RePro lets you watch video from any production on your phone, computer, tablet, or hardware decoder - whether it's happening live right now or already recorded.

Ways to use RePro

RePro's unique capabilities span the entire production lifecycle

While filming:

Watch live, straight from the camera. See what's happening on set or in post-production and interact in real-time.

Example: You're filming in Vancouver. Your studio executive is in Los Angeles and your dailies colourist is in Paris. They see the live camera feed on their respective devices without flying to set. They have a chat about what they see and add annotations.

In Post:

Along with it's powerful production capabilities, RePro can be used wherever live collaboration is needed in Post Production - editorial, VFX and colour finishing are all fully supported with pristine UHD/HDR support.

Example: The Director and main unit is on location in Ireland. Second unit is on location in London. Your editorial team is in New York. Editorial can stream a cut straight to both units and be seeing live what is being filmed during the day.

Unscripted and Reality:

RePro is unique in being able to stream as many feeds as you need, making it ideal for unscripted and reality shows. Markers allow for logging comments and annotations as they happen.

Example: Two week reality show shoot in Sweden. Studio execs in Amsterdam, Los Angeles and Brazil. Editorial and logging team in Brazil.

Missed something?:

RePro's TimeShift (DVR) feature allows you rewind a live stream, meaning you never miss the action.

Example: The shoot starts at 8am in London. The producer in Los Angeles logs in at 9am their time and is able to quickly catch up on specific scenes.

How to watch

If you just need to watch a stream:

Someone from production and/or the technical team will give you access one of four ways:

Guest Link (fastest, no setup - for passive viewing only)

Copy-paste a guest link into your browser and watch instantly.

No account needed.

Perfect for infrequent viewers or quick reviews.

RePro Stream Viewer App (mobile - best for passive viewing with some controls)

Download from the App Store (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV).

Requires an invitation to a project account, or a guest link. Learn more here.

Optimised for watching on mobile devices or your TV.

RePro Stream Web App (best for team members who also manage settings or need to interact with whoever is streaming)

Open in your browser at app.reprostream.com
Requires an invitation to a project account.

Use this if you need to watch AND interact with streams, or to manage project settings, users, or security. Check this video tutorial for more info.

Hardware Decoder

Check out the RePro compatibility chart and learn more about our video pipeline for details.

Most viewers use the mobile Viewer App or guest links in browser.

The Web App is mainly for team members who need to control access and settings, or for users who need to interact with streams and other people.

Setting up RePro (for technical teams)

If you're setting up RePro for your production:

RePro requires some setup before anyone can watch.

This is not typically handled by average viewers.

Technical operators, camera operators, DITs, etc., feel free to read on!

The setup involves:

Unlike consumer apps, you can't just "start streaming" without this setup first. But once it's configured, streaming and viewing is simple.

Why film and TV productions use RePro

Think of it like Zoom or Twitch, but designed specifically for professional film and television productions - with the security and tools that studios require.

Security:

Only people you invite can watch. Watermarks and encryption prevent leaks. Studios like BBC, Netflix, Fox and Amazon already trust RePro with unreleased content.

Collaboration:

Built-in live chat and timestamped markers. Tag specific moments. Discuss what you're watching in real-time.

Control:

Decide who sees what, when they can watch, and for how long. Remove access instantly when needed.

Flexible deployment:

RePro runs on secure video engines. It can also be set up to work with your own video engine hardware at a location or cloud solution of your choice.
