The Haivision Makito X4 can stream directly into RePro using SRT. The recommended configuration is to have the Makito operate in SRT Caller mode, pushing an MPEG Transport Stream (TS) to RePro, which operates as the Listener.
I'll walk through the RePro configuration first, then the Makito X4's web interface, including video, audio, encryption and network settings.
Step 1. Get the SRT ingest details from RePro
In the RePro Management interface:
Open your Organisation → Project Manager.
Select Programs from the left-hand menu.
Click the Program you want the Makito X4 to stream into.
In the right-hand panel, find Program Inputs.
Expand Split SRT Input Details.
You should see the host, port and encryption details required for the Makito.
For example, a RePro SRT input URL might look like: srt://lon2.repro.stream:10031?passphrase=YOUR_PASSPHRASE
Example only. Use the actual details from your Program.
RePro parameter | Example | Purpose |
Host / Domain |
| RePro ingest server |
Input Port |
| Destination UDP port |
Encryption | AES-256, if enabled | SRT encryption |
Passphrase | Your Program's passphrase | Authenticates encrypted transport |
Important: Use the Program's Input details, not its Output details. RePro recommends using the hostname rather than a fixed IP address wherever the encoder supports DNS.
Step 2. Configure the Makito X4 video and audio encoders
Connect your SDI source to the Makito X4 and open the encoder's web interface using its IP address.
On recent firmware, navigate to Streaming → Video Encoders.
Select a video encoder, for example
Video Encoder 0.Click its Settings icon.
Select your SDI input, for example
BNC-1.Check that the input format is detected correctly.
Configure the encoding settings and click Apply.
Start the video encoder if it is not already running.
For an initial 720p SDR test, we suggest:
Setting | Recommended value |
Codec Algorithm | AVC / H.264 |
Encoding Profile | High |
Chroma Subsampling | 4:2:0 8-bit |
Resolution | Automatic (source) |
Frame Rate | Automatic (source) |
Rate Control | CBR |
Bitrate | 4,000 kbps |
Framing | IP (no B-frames) |
GOP Size | 25 frames at 25fps, or 30 at 30fps |
Intra-Refresh | Disabled |
These are starting recommendations for a reliable, compatible test, not mandatory RePro settings. RePro also accepts HEVC/H.265, including higher-quality formats, but H.264 is the simpler choice for broad browser compatibility.
Configure audio
Under Streaming → Audio Encoders, select Audio Encoder 0 and configure:
Setting | Recommended value |
Input Interface | SDI-1 (matching video) |
Input Channels | Ch 1–2 |
Codec | MPEG-2 ADTS (AAC-LC) |
Channel Mode | Stereo |
Sample Rate | 48 kHz |
Bitrate | 192 kbps |
Click Apply and ensure the audio encoder is running.
Step 3. Create the SRT output on the Makito X4
Navigate to Streaming → Streams, then select Add Stream.
On older firmware, this section may be called Outputs rather than Streams.
Under the stream's Content section:
Setting | Value |
Name |
|
Video | Video Encoder 0 |
Audio | Audio Encoder 0 |
Metadata | None |
Protocol | TS over SRT |
You can leave the TS Settings at their defaults unless your workflow requires particular transport stream PIDs or a specific Program Number.
Configure the SRT destination
Haivision Makito X4 SRT Destination, Settings and Access Control panels.
Enter the following settings:
Makito setting | Value |
Mode | Caller |
Path Redundancy | None |
Interface | Auto (or intended network interface) |
Address |
|
Source Port | Auto-Assign |
Destination Port |
|
Do not enter the full SRT URL into the Address field. The Makito separates the hostname, destination port and encryption settings into individual fields.
Under SRT Settings, enter:
Setting | Value |
Latency (ms) | 500 |
Dynamic Bitrate Control / Network Adaptive | Off initially |
Encryption | AES-256 |
Authentication | None |
Passphrase | RePro Program passphrase |
Bandwidth Overhead | 25% |
SRT Access Control | Off |
A few important distinctions:
Latency: 500ms is a sensible starting point and matches RePro's recommended default. You can reduce it once the connection is stable.
Encryption: AES-256 should match the RePro Program's encryption configuration. If your Program uses AES-128 or disables encryption, match that instead.
Authentication: Leave the Makito's separate AES-GCM authentication option at
Nonefor a conventional encrypted SRT connection, unless RePro has explicitly been configured to use AES-GCM.SRT Access Control: RePro's normal Program input URL doesn't require a separate SRT Stream Publishing ID, so leave this disabled unless you have been supplied one.
Haivision's interface explicitly supports AES-128, AES-256, passphrases and Caller mode.

Step 4. Start streaming
Once everything is configured:
Click Add Stream to create the output.
Make sure the new stream is started.
Open its Statistics panel.
Confirm its connection state changes to
STREAMING.In RePro, open the relevant Program and check that it reports online.
Open a viewer with access to that Program and check picture and sound.
If you can see the stream inside RePro, the Makito is successfully connected.
Step 5. Check stream health
Within the Makito X4's SRT Statistics, I would pay particular attention to these parameters:
Statistic | What to look for |
State | STREAMING |
RTT | Stable round-trip network time |
Resent Packets | Occasional retransmissions are normal |
Dropped Packets | Ideally zero or very low |
Reconnections | Zero during a stable session |
Local Buffer Level | Should remain comfortably below the configured latency |
If the connection is dropping packets, increase the SRT latency to 750–1000ms, or reduce the encoded bitrate if the available upload bandwidth is insufficient. Haivision advises that SRT latency should be at least three times the measured RTT.

Step 6. Troubleshooting
Symptom | Likely cause / action |
Stuck on CONNECTING | Check RePro hostname, port, DNS and outbound UDP firewall permissions |
SECURING / encryption error | Verify AES key length and passphrase match RePro |
Connected but no picture | Check SDI signal, active video encoder and selected Video source |
Picture but no audio | Check Audio Encoder assignment, SDI audio channels and mute state |
Picture freezes or drops | Inspect RTT, packet loss, SRT latency and available bandwidth |
Stream online but invisible to viewers | Check that the Program is assigned to a Channel accessible to their Group |
Network note: Because the Makito is the Caller, you would normally only need to permit outbound UDP to the RePro destination hostname and port, plus return traffic. You should not need to forward an incoming port to the Makito.
Initial configuration checklist
