Integrating with Avid Media Composer's SRT Broadcast feature

Updated over a week ago

Setting up the Media Composer Project for SRT Broadcast

Make Sure you have an Ultimate or Enterprise version of Avid Media Composer.

Avid Media composer states that its SRT publishing feature is only available for Ultimate or Enterprise subscriptions.

  • Whilst in an open project right click the HW/SW button at the top right of the timeline.

  • This should bring up a pop up menu - Make sure SRT is ticked and then click CONFIGURE

  • This will bring up the Avid I/O Manager SRT panel.

Configure the SRT Settings

  • Stream Name: Can be a name for your own reference - does not need to match the Program name.

  • Mode: Caller

  • IP Address: - get this from the RePro Manager Input split parameters

  • Password: - if you have set up one - also found in split parameters

  • Latency: - no less than 120ms - for non critical latency this can go up to around 5000ms for more stabilty

  • Quality: At your discretion.

Currently Avid MC SRT output seems to be at its most stable when set to LOW quality and MEDIUM is a good optimal size for quality and bandwidth. However, depending on the machine it is running on it does seem to cause Avid MC to crash sooner the larger this setting is.

  • Click APPLY

  • You may be presented with OS confirmation to store keychain information - enter your computer password and choose Allow All to avoid repeat responses. (MacOS Only).

You can find out split parameters details on the main page for Introduction to Integrations.

Starting and stopping an SRT broadcast

  • When you are ready to broadcast left click the HW/SW icon - it should start flashing red to show it is broadcasting. If you get an error then check your settings by repeating the steps above.

  • To end the broadcast - click it once again and it should stop flashing red.
