14 · Pulse Messenger for Orbit (BETA)

Pulse Messenger is a text chat between you and the Orbit clients watching your stream — the iOS/tvOS viewer apps, the web Orbit Monitor, and other connected clients. Use it to push one announcement to everyone or to have a private one-to-one chat with a single device.

Turn on Pulse Messenger Chat in Main Settings → Orbit Streaming (Orbit Streaming must be on first). A chat icon then appears in the main header and in Orbit Device Control.

How to open it

Click the speech-bubble icon in the main header, or the same icon in the Orbit Device Control header. To go straight to a chat with one device, click the 💬 Chat button on that client's card in Orbit Device Control.

The Conversations sidebar on the left lists:

  • Pulse (All) — one broadcast thread sent to every connected client. Selected by default.

  • One thread per connected client — a private 1:1 conversation.

Send a broadcast to all clients

  1. Open Pulse Messenger.

  2. Select Pulse (All) in the sidebar.

  3. Type your message (up to 500 characters).

  4. Press Enter or click Send. Every connected client receives it.

Send a private message to one client

  1. Open Pulse Messenger, or click 💬 Chat on a client's card in Orbit Device Control to jump to their thread.

  2. Click the client's name in the sidebar.

  3. Type your message and press Enter or click Send. Only that client receives it.

A client's thread shows broadcasts plus that client's DMs. Pulse (All) shows broadcasts only — switch to a client to read their direct messages.

Unread messages

  • The header chat icon shows a badge counting unread incoming messages (up to 99). Opening the window clears it.

  • Each client in the sidebar has its own unread badge for DMs, cleared when you open that thread.

Your own sent messages never count as unread.

Tips & gotchas

  • Enter always sends. The input is single-line; Shift+Enter does not add a line break. (Incoming messages can still show multiple lines.)

  • A live counter under the input tracks the 500-character limit.

  • New clients take a couple of seconds to appear in or drop out of the sidebar.

  • The window remembers its size and position between sessions, and you can drag the divider to resize the sidebar.
